LIBERTY -- Trustees have approved resolutions to kick-start improvements to several roads in the township next year.
The measures certify the township has the money to pay the necessary local shares for participating in the Ohio Public Works Commission's State Capital Improvement and Local Transportation Improvement programs, according to Fiscal Officer Matthew Connelly.
The $650,000 project is funded with $499,068 from the Federal Highway Administration and $150,000 from the public works commission. The money would cover the cost in the preliminary estimate from the Trumbull County Engineer's Office.
The roads planned to be resurfaced are Secrist Lane, Ellenwood Drive, Motor Inn, March and Truman avenues, Monticello Boulevard, Monticello Drive, Madison Road and Jefferson Court.
Trustees also authorized administrative assistant Martha Weirick to apply for state funds and execute contracts as needed for attaining additional financial assistance in relation to the project.
In other action when the met Tuesday, trustees:
• Presented Adam Earnheardt, president of Liberty Little Leopards, with a resolution honoring the organization's fifth- and sixth-grade football teams for going undefeated and winning the Eastern Ohio Youth Football League's Super Bowl in their tier.
• Adopted an emergency action plan for an automated external defibrillator at the township's baseball fields. The device will be placed at the baseball fields during baseball season.
• Approved Cemetery Sexton Tim Monroe's resignation. Monroe plans to retire Nov. 23, but Trustee Devon Stanley said he will be available in a volunteer capacity to help with the township's older graves.
• Approved part-time firefighter John Corman's resignation, effective immediately.
