Hubbard supports recreational cannabis
HUBBARD — Just as voters in the state of Ohio supported adult-use recreational cannabis on the ballot in 2023, voters in Hubbard city followed suit Tuesday night.
Unofficial and incomplete results from the Trumbull County Board of Elections show the issue passing 66% for and 34% against, with 83 of the county’s 158 precincts reporting.
“The results in the city reflect what the voters across the state said last November. The people have spoken, and we will continue our working relationship with the businesses in the city,” Kyle said.
City council passed legislation banning recreational marijuana sales in a 4-2 vote in July, despite statewide legalization of adult-use cannabis. However, A Cut Above dispensary — which now sells medical marijuana — collected 194 signatures, nearly twice the required 100 to get the issue on the ballot as a referendum.
ACA Dispensary is the city’s lone medicinal marijuana facility.
Dustin Crites, the dispensary’s general manager, previously said the company was among the first businesses to be approved for a dual-use license under the name B Cubed Operations Ohio LLC when the state began accepting applications June 7.
When they applied for the license, Crites said everyone in town had no issues, and the company was “forthcoming and open” about the process with city officials.
Crites said the dispensary initially came to the city under the medicinal license because it was the only one available when ACA first opened, but the facility was designed with intentions of a large-scale operation.
