Four Trumbull County bridges to be named

By Staff report 1 min read

The Ohio Senate passed a bill that includes the naming of four bridges in Trumbull County in honor of military veterans and first responders.

The Senate approved the road-naming bill 31-0 Wednesday. The Ohio House approved the bill 76-0 on Nov. 29, 2023.

It goes to Gov. Mike DeWine for him to sign it into law.

The bridges being named are:

The Veterans Memorial Bridge in Newton Falls on state Route 534 over the Mahoning River.

The Cortland Veterans Memorial Bridge on state Route 5 over Walnut Creek.

The Hubbard First Responders Bridge on a section of state Route 62 spanning Mud Run.

The Chief Radio Operator Walter Dawson Memorial Highway on U.S. Route 422 between Warren Burton Road and state Route 534 in Southington. Dawson worked for the Ohio State Highway Patrol and was killed in a 1953 patrol car crash.

"We owe our veterans and first responders a debt of gratitude for their service to our nation and these designations will allow us to honor them for generations to come," state Sen. Sandra O'Brien, R-Lenox, who included the four bridges in the legislation, said.
