Warren church plans dedication
WARREN — Second Baptist Church, “A House of Hope,” 1510 Main Ave. SW, will produce the “Celebration of Service” Commemorative Booklet, which will honor veterans and current service members from Warren and surrounding areas.
Todd Johnson, pastor of the church, said the special booklet will be released in conjunction with the dedication of the historic Second Baptist Chapel at noon Nov. 10. Veterans Day is Nov. 11.
Johnson said the historic chapel, first constructed in 1919 and relocated to its present location on Main Avenue in the 1970s, will be rededicated to honor the sacrifice of those who served in the military, both past and present.
He said in addition to the chapel renovation, plans are in the works to install a special display featuring the flags of all branches of the service and POW / MIA service members.
Community members are invited to celebrate their loved ones by purchasing a full page ($100) or half page ($50) in the booklet. Each page will feature a photo, military service details, and any honors the veteran or active service member has received. All proceeds from the booklet will go toward the ongoing restoration of the historic chapel, ensuring it remains “a place of gathering, remembrance and reflection for years to come.”
Johnson said the restored chapel will continue to host community events and will be offered free for veteran memorial services.
