WHAT: Board of Education meeting Monday

PRESENT: Julie Altawil, Ken Jones, Wendy Miller, Jeff Pegg and Brianne Perry

The board:

• Recognized the high school tennis courts as the "Ohio Commerce Center Facility" for the significant financial and other contributions made by the George and Spiros Bakeris families for improvements and upgrades at the courts.

• Heard from Erin Pierce, supervisor of curriculum and instruction, who reported on the state report cards, with Howland schools earning 4.5 out of five stars, with no scores below three in different categories. She said several areas received five stars and noted improvements in gap closing.

• Accepted retirement resignations of Ron Loomis, bus driver, effective Oct. 1, who has been with the district since 2008, and Joyce Pauloski, secretary to the superintendent, effective Jan. 1, who has been with the district since 1989.

• Approved Elizabeth Wilson to provide intervention tutor services to students at John F. Kennedy Lower Campus at $25 per hour not to exceed five hours per week.

• Approved a contract with ATC Healthcare Services and JFK Lower Campus for a nurse paid from auxiliary service funds, and a contract with Cadence Care Network and JFK Lower Campus for a guidance counselor not to exceed $34,000 paid also from auxiliary service funds. Officials said JFK pays all costs and will determine the nurse cost.
