WARREN -- An Amber Alert was quickly issued Monday night after a woman reported her ex-boyfriend had driven off with her two children following an argument at Callahan's Bar.
Warren police officers arrived at the scene to find the children's mother, who explained that her ex-boyfriend, Antonio D. Carter, 33, had left her at Callahan's Bar on Mahoning Avenue and taken off with her two children, ages 2 and 4.
Carter is facing two counts of abduction and traffic violations.
The children's mother, a resident of Akron, told officers that she had received a call from Carter, who had recently been released from jail, asking her to pick him up. She drove with her children to get him from an address on Mayflower Avenue, a police report states.
While en route back to Akron, the couple got into an argument, prompting the suspect to stop the vehicle at Callahan's Bar, forcibly remove the woman and break her phone. The suspect then drove away with both children, the report states.
The mother said she began walking down Summit Street when she encountered Carter's relative, who offered her a ride but insisted on stopping at a house on West Market Street first. Upon arrival at a laundromat, the mother refused to comply with his request and exited the vehicle, seeking help from a bystander to call 911, the report states.
Officers from the Warren Police Department coordinated with the Trumbull County 911 Center, the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Akron Police Department to track down the suspect, who fled in a 2001 Ford F350 with the children inside.
The truck, identified through the Flock camera system, was first spotted in Warren and later in Akron, where Akron police located the children safe at the victim's mother's house on Grant Street.
They also found the suspect's truck nearby. While officers were speaking with the victim's mother, Carter arrived and was taken into custody. He was transported to the Summit County jail, and charges were filed in Warren Municipal Court on Tuesday.
