MESOPOTAMIA -- The Ohio Department of Transportation plans to rehabilitate the existing bridges on state Route 534 over Andrews Creek between Clark Road and Parks West Road and on Route 534 over Mill Creek, just north of Sweet West Road.
The proposed bridge rehabilitation project will consist of replacing the existing bridge superstructure (concrete bridge beams and deck). The project also includes guardrail replacement, pavement replacement and traffic signage.
The project is necessary to address current bridge deficiencies. No right-of-way is anticipated for this project, which is in the preliminary engineering phase. Construction is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2026.
During project construction, a minimum of one lane of traffic in each direction shall be maintained at all times, except for a period not to exceed 45 consecutive calendar days when Route 534 at each project site will be closed to traffic.
The official detour route for the bridge closure located between Clark Road and Parks West Road will use state Routes 88, 45 and 87, while the official detour route for the bridge closure located just north of Sweet West Road will use state Routes 45 and 87 and U.S. Route 322 in Ashtabula County.
These closures will not occur simultaneously, and a local traffic detour also will be established to maintain access for emergency / public services. Construction, lane restriction and road closure / detour information will be posted along Route 534, on the ODOT Webpage and all intersecting side roads prior to the start of project construction. Access shall be maintained to all properties, businesses, schools, etc., within and adjacent to the project construction limits for the duration of the project.
While the proposed project will not result in any substantial impacts to environmental resources, ODOT is seeking any comments the public may have regarding the proposed project. Comments received by Sept. 13 will be considered during project development, but all comments received will receive a reply.
