WHAT: Board of Education meeting Monday
PRESENT: Mark Harper, Danielle Scherer, Jennifer Nicholas and Angela Campana
ABSENT: Taylor Pease
The board:
• Recognized and thanked Superintendent Velina Jo Taylor, who is retiring this month after 39 years in the educational field, including the past five as superintendent of Lakeview schools and before that for Brookfield schools. This was her last board meeting.
• Announced that Ed Mackiewicz will be the elementary principal, replacing Ryan Stowell as assistant deputy treasurer, and Joshua Vastag as middle school principal, replacing Ashley Handrych, who is school superintendent effective Aug. 1.
• Named Melinda Rausch as transportation / grounds and facilities supervisor, Jennifer Sommerville as bus driver and Mackenzie Sylvester as superintendent's secretary.
• Approved paying Cortland $82,944 for a school resource officer for 2024-25 year.
• Accepted the retirement of Jill Engle as print shop operator effective Aug. 31.
• Heard from Taylor the fire marshal will inspect school doors for safety and all installed in 2015 or later must comply with current safety standards.
• Approved fees for technology and filtering for grades 5-12 at $60 per student and elementary teaching and instruction at $35 per student.
• Approved Campana as delegate to the Ohio School Boards Association capital conference Nov. 10-12 and Scherer as alternate.
• Approved complimentary passes to regular season sporting events for staff, board members, and Lakeview residents age 65 and older.
• Rescheduled next meetings for 6 p.m. Aug. 14 and Sept. 11.
