NEWTON FALLS -- The Newton Falls School District is planning for several projects to be done this summer including gym floor repairs and the installation of more cameras.
Superintendent Justin Christopher, who will be leaving at the end of the month to become a principal for grades 3 to 6 at James A. Garfield Schools in Garrettsville, said the summer campus improvement projects and other initiatives which have begun include:
• Surveillance cameras installation at the elementary-middle school, junior-senior high school, football stadium and bus garage / yard.
• Landscaping project was completed at the front of the board of education, junior-senior high, and middle school building's entrances.
• Concrete repair and sidewalk replacement project set for next week.
• Asphalt repair and paving project of driveways and parking lot set to start July 15.
• Gym floor maintenance with Williams Sports Flooring applying two coats of finish to the high school gym floor during the week of July 22. Christopher said plans are to top sand, screen and coat the junior high and high school gyms on an alternating yearly basis.
• Maintenance/ Grounds Supervisor Joellen Seidner is currently coordinating with Buckeye Bleachers to replace the basketball hoop winches in the junior high gym.
In other action at Thursday's meeting, the board:
• Approved Russ Bennett for leading a board professional development training and work session last week. Topics included working as a team, leadership and internal and external communications.
• Accepted resignations from teacher Brendan Jones and technology assistant Natasha Robinson.
• Approved disposal of obsolete items including volleyball poles, books, teachers; manuals and miscellaneous bus parts.
