Baking up Greek treats

Angel Ploumbis of Howland prepares a Greek pastry, finikia, by dipping it into warm syrup and then covering it with nuts in preparation for the annual St. Demetrios Greek Festival at the church’s community center on Atlantic Street in Warren. Other desserts available are baklava, kataifi, diples, ekmek, galaktoboureko, kourambiethes, amygdalota, koulourakia and bougatsa. The festival runs 4 to 10 p.m. today and Thursday, 4 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
