WHAT: Newton Falls Joint Fire District meeting June 18
PRESENT: Justin Montgomery, Julie Stimpert, Doreen Lutz, Aaron Perkins and Linda Brunder
The board:
•Heard from fire Chief Jim Williamson that those who work on weekends in the summer through Labor Day will be paid an additional $5 per hour. He said the weekend shift differential increase was offered as it was getting harder to find workers for weekends. Emergency medical technicians will receive $18 per hour, advanced EMTs $19 per hour and paramedics $20 per hour.
•Hired Matt Kello as a part-time firefighter / emergency medical technician now that he is on military leave from the Navy at a rate of $18 per hour.
•Hired Rebecca Huth as a part-time firefighter / paramedic at a rate of $20 per hour.
•Accepted the resignation of firefighter / paramedic Robert Sharpe.
• Are continuing to look for a new fiscal officer to replace interim fiscal officer Paul Canter.
•Reported it has not received an offer for the 1.35-acre property off First Street, which is part of the fire department.
•Reported Jared Sevette and Atlanta Stalager have completed paramedic training.
•Will have firefighters at the car and bike shows this weekend in the village's downtown.
