NEWTON FALLS -- The Board of Education is searching for a
new school superintendent as Justin Christopher, who served the past two years, has submitted his resignation.
The board at a special meeting on Monday accepted Christopher's resignation, effective July 31.
Christopher has been named the new grade 3-6 principal for James A. Garfield Schools in Garrettsville.
Before becoming superintendent in Newton Falls, Christopher worked one year as principal at the elementary school.
He said he wanted to return to a principal position.
Board President Amie Crowder said the board will post for the superintendent position today.
She said the board hopes to have the position filled before Christopher leaves at the end of July.
Crowder and other board members praised Christopher for his work.
"Being a superintendent is a tough position. We thank you for your service," she said, noting his dedication and loyalty to the school district.
Crowder said many school districts face challenges filling positions as fewer people enter the teaching and school administration field.
She said applicants will be reviewed and interviews will be set up in the near future.
Christopher said he will work with the next superintendent for a smooth transition.
