WARREN -- City council recently adopted a resolution recognizing Law Enforcement Week and the Warren Police Department.
Council's resolution "expresses its deepest appreciation for the services and commitment of the Warren Police Department." It also encourages "all community members to show their support and gratitude towards the law enforcement personnel throughout the year."
The resolution was sponsored by Councilman Michael O'Brien, who chairs the police and fire committee.
"These brave men and women dedicate their lives to serve and protect our community," O'Brien said. "They often put themselves in harm's way to ensure our safety. Each and every day, these men and women of the Warren Police Department face challenges. Those challenges and risks that they face we can only imagine."
O'Brien said the police department faces its challenges with courage, integrity and resilience.
"Responding to emergencies, preventing crime and also building trust in our community," he said.
The resolution was presented to Officer David Weber, who O'Brien said is president of the Warren Fraternal Order of Police.
Warren police Chief Eric Merkel said Weber has been with the department for about 28 years. He said Weber is very involved in the community and "one of the best of the best."
"Dave spearheaded last Saturday, cleaning up the parking lot of the police department, throwing some mulch around," Merkel said. "If you walk out in this hallway, he built that patch display."
Merkel said he appreciated the gesture from O'Brien.
