WARREN -- One of three co-defendants charged in the fatal arson that killed 16-year-old Chassidy Broadstone has declined a plea deal that would have dismissed the death penalty.

Brendan Daviduk, 30, has a trial scheduled for June 17 which will address the capital murder charges.

During Thursday's final pretrial hearing, Daviduk refused the prosecution's offer.

Trumbull County Assistant Prosecutor Chris Becker said the plea deal would have seen Daviduk plead guilty to an amended indictment that would have dismissed one aggravated murder charge and the death penalty specification attached to another count of aggravated murder.

Becker and assistant prosecutor Michael Burnett offered Daviduk a life sentence with a chance at parole after 32 years.

"Since the defendant has rejected this offer, we will withdraw it," Becker said.

"There's no sense in negotiating any further. We've gone as low as we will go on this matter."

Daviduk is charged with aggravated murder, attempted aggravated murder, aggravated arson, attempted aggravated arson and tampering with evidence.

Daviduk, along with two others, is accused of setting fire to Broadstone's Nevada Street residence the night of Jan. 19, 2023, resulting in her death.
