WARREN --The Warren and Niles Street Crimes units collaborated on a surveillance operation targeting a vehicle that had previously evaded Warren officers.
A social media post from Niles police says Friday around 12:38 p.m. officers located a vehicle at the Timber Creek Apartments in Niles.
A man, later identified as Dionte J. Catron, 23, was surveyed by police as he entered the vehicle. Officers say Catron, of Wick Street, had warrants for his arrest relating to felony charges.
A marked Niles Police Department vehicle tried initiating a traffic stop on North Road, but the vehicle attempted to flee, according to the post. The car led police on a high speed chase through Howland Township and the City of Warren, reaching speeds that exceeded 80 mph.
A vehicle pursuit of Catron ended when he entered the Trumbull Homes area off of state Route 169 and drove through several yards.
Police stated in the post that Catron exited the vehicle holding a pistol and ran. Officers pursued and eventually captured the man behind a church.
Law enforcement discovered a large bag of suspected crack cocaine, a Glock pistol and $1,695 in cash.
Catron was booked into Trumbull County jail and is facing several felony charges related to weapons and drug possession.
