WARREN -- Additional charges could arise for a Youngstown man who was sentenced to 24 months of probation on a gun charge.
During a presentence investigation, Erik Snead, 41, provided false information that he was wounded in Iraq. However, it was later discovered that he never served.
The Trumbull County Prosecutor's Office said Snead recanted that lie but then lied again, saying he attended bootcamp.
Prosecutors said they're reviewing the case to consider whether additional charges could be filed against Snead for providing false information on government documents.
The falsity drew sharp criticism from Trumbull County Common Pleas Court Judge Sean O'Brien during Wednesday's sentencing hearing, with the judge telling Snead he "dishonored and disrespected every person who ever put on a military uniform."
Snead sentencing was related to three gun charges he was picked up on by Liberty police in June.
Officers arrested Snead on a warrant but a vehicle search found him to be in possession of a handgun with a modified silencer, a police report stated.
The weapon had no serial number according to police, who say they also recovered a shotgun slug inside a backpack.
Police said Snead admitted to owning the gun telling officers he lives on the South Side of Youngstown and the firearm was for protection.
