WARREN -- A Warren man captured by U.S. Marshals in Illinois pleaded guilty to a July beating of a mother and her 18-month-child, which was captured on video.
Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge Ronald Rice set a sentencing date for April 9 for Tyrell Williams following a background investigation.
Williams, 27, pleaded guilty in Rice's court Tuesday to two counts of felonious assault, two counts kidnapping and one count of endangering children.
By taking a plea agreement, William avoided a jury trial that would have begun on Monday.
Investigators spoke with the victim at a home in the 1800 block of Sixth Street in July, but she told police the assault captured on video took place at a home on West Market Street in Warren Township.
The woman said Williams had come to the residence to break up with her, but she said he began punching her after she told him to "get your stuff and leave." Police noted in their report that the child had visible markings on the right side of the face, along with a slightly bloody lip. The child's grandmother handed over additional footage depicting the assault on the woman and child.
Footage shows Williams repeatedly punching and kicking the child, at times striking the child directly in the face and kicking him across the room, police said.
He then turns toward the mother, slapping and punching her as she attempts to take cover on the couch. At one point, Williams body slammed the woman while she held the child, police said.
The police report states that officers saw two large contusions on her forehead, swelling on her eyes and nose, and a small cut on the nose.
