WARREN -- Trumbull County sheriff's deputies patrolling the city's west side seized more than 50 grams of various drugs during a traffic stop Thursday.
According to a news release, Trumbull County Sheriff's Office Deputy Dennis Garito was on a routine patrol about 3:45 a.m. when he stopped a vehicle that had "no working rear tail lights or license plate light."
Dispatch informed Garito that the vehicle's driver, later identified as Jason Orr, had an expired license while the woman passenger, Robin O'Brien, had an active warrant through Warren Municipal Court for heroin possession.
Garito noted in the report the passenger was someone he previously had arrested and whom he knew to have been an inmate at the Trumbull County jail.
Another officer was called to the area to search her, finding three needles and what the deputies speculated as having been either heroin or fentanyl folded up in her purse, along with other drug related paraphernalia.
Deputies asked Orr if anything illegal was in the vehicle.
He answered,, "no, there's nothin at all," the report states.
A small gray bag was found on the floor that contained a digital scale and four bags of a white powdery substance suspected to be cocaine. Using the scale, deputies tallied a combined weight of about 60 grams, the report states.
Orr denied any knowledge of the bag, telling deputies it must have belonged to O'Brien.
Orr was given a traffic citation and a date to appear in Warren Municipal Court for charges of expired operators license and no tail light.
O'Brien was charged with felony drug possession along with a misdemeanor charge of drug paraphernalia and possessing drug abuse instruments and was booked into the Trumbull County jail.
Further charges are pending as authorities await a BCI analysis of the suspected narcotics.
