WARREN -- Agents from the U.S. Marshals and Capital Area Regional Task Force say they've captured a murder suspect wanted in connection with the 2020 slaying of Queysean Sallis on Fifth Street SW in Warren.
Gregory Stallworth, 32, was apprehended alongside a wanted fugitive from Cleveland at a home in Montclair, Virginia, 30 miles south of Washington, D.C.
According to Warren Municipal Court records, a warrant was issued for Stallworth's arrest in January 2021.
The Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force offered a reward for his capture last October with police saying he last was sighted in the Warren and Youngstown area.
"Outstanding work by members of the USMS in Washington, D.C," U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott stated in a news release. "Not only were they able to safely locate two violent fugitives, they took almost a dozen guns off the streets. These two fugitives thought they could hide forever, but it is now their time to face the justice system."
The capture of the two fugitives also led to the seizure of 11 firearms.
Stallworth is incarcerated in the D.C. area and is awaiting extradition to Warren.
He is wanted in the murder of Sallis, 25, who was the city’s 15th homicide victim at the midway point of 2020. At the time, city officials said it was the most homicides to occur in less than a year since the 1990s, according to newspaper archives.
A chief forensic investigator for the Trumbull County Coroner's Office said Sallis died of multiple gunshot wounds after being shot the evening of Sept. 23, 2020, at the Hampshire House apartments. The coroner's office said Sallis, who lived at an address in Youngstown, was identified through fingerprints.
According to a Trumbull County 911 record, a woman called about 7 p.m. to report people shooting outside her apartment at 1413 Fifth St. SW. A second caller told dispatchers that someone was dead, and she saw two men -- both with guns -- outside the complex.
The Warren Police Department said there were multiple witnesses to the shooting, but very few were willing to speak to officers as suspects had fled the scene. Police said the victim was in his mid-20s and was shot multiple times outside one of the apartment buildings. He was taken to Trumbull Regional Medical Center by a civilian, where he was pronounced dead.
