WARREN -- A Warren man facing sentencing in a separate case involving noncompliance was arrested over the weekend on a charge of aggravated burglary.
James Beatty, 53, was booked into the Trumbull County jail on Saturday after a woman called police because Beatty was searching for tools that were left behind at the residence.
Beatty entered a not guilty plea during his video arraignment Monday through Warren Municipal Court, in Judge Thomas Gysegem's courtroom. A temporary protection order was served for the alleged victim, and Beatty's bond was set at $25,000.
A woman told police that Beatty and his son arrived at her home about 4 p.m. Saturday and she called 911 to report a burglary in progress.
The two officers dispatched to the Hollywood Street home met with the caller, who explained that Beatty had fled the residence in a silver or gray Jeep with no visible license plate. She further advised the officers that Beatty most likely was on his way to A&J Precision Auto, his place of work, a police report states.
"I was advised by (caller) that Beatty's son first approached the door and asked for the tools as Beatty stood in the front yard," the report states. The woman then explained to police that she told Beatty's son that she would retrieve the tools and did not want Beatty inside.
"Beatty then ran up the porch, ripped the door open, breaking the padlock off the frame, and entered the residence," an officer wrote in the report. "Beatty approached (caller), placed his hand over her face, and pushed her to the ground. (Caller) attempted to fight back but states she was overpowered."
The woman further explained to officers that she ran to the kitchen and dialed 911, as Beatty tore through the residence looking for tools, the report states. She said Beatty then followed her throughout the house as she was on the phone with dispatchers.
The woman told officers that she was not injured, and did not need medical attention.
Beatty was cited in July 2023 for failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer. He pleaded guilty to his indictment Feb. 20, and has a sentencing hearing scheduled for March 28 in that case.
