WHAT: Board of Education meeting Monday
PRESENT: Tim Gibson, Karen Ancell, Brad Gamlin, Russell Sewell and Julia Shutt
The board:
• Entered into a shared service agreement with Mathews schools for treasurer services to be split 50-50 between the districts. Superintendent Anthony Calderone said the contract has been renewed for the last three years and saved the district $148,000 over three years. The new agreement is from August 2024 to July 2027 and will save $45,000 in the first year.
• Approved the 2024-25 school calendar, with first day for students Aug. 27 and last day May 30, 2025.
• Approved an open enrollment policy for all school districts.
• Approved a resolution supporting the fair school funding plan. Calderone said the school district is seeking fair funding for all schools. The district pays 30 cents per pupil, or $225, for schools or districts with enrollment of 750 or fewer students.
• Approved Karen Mullenax as a special education tutor at $125 per hour and Valerie Staley as a special education tutor at $150 per hour.
• Approved allowing organizers of the LaBrae annual car show and parade to use the school parking lot, Bascom gymnasium and restrooms Aug. 9-12.
