WHAT: Township trustee meeting Tuesday
PRESENT: Rex Fee, Doug Emerine and Bill Templeton
Trustees:
• Gave a second reading to placing a 0.5-mill police renewal levy and a 1.2-mill fire renewal levy both on the November general election ballot.
• Heard from Emerine of plans for a plaque to recognize Randy Gradishar who was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame. Fee said school officials have also discussed a possible statue to honor Gradishar by the football stadium. Fee said there are also plans for a committee to seek donations for projects. Gradishar will also be honored at a planned Champion High School class reunion.
• Received a $10,000 donation from Russ Banks and R.D. Banks Chevrolet for the fire department to purchase a multi-gas detector calibration kit and auto extrication gear.
• Set spending threshold for department heads at $1,500 with higher amounts needing trustees' approval.
• Heard from Fee the township is seeking a Bureau of Workers Compensation grant for storage building garage door openers.
• Heard from Templeton that Champion was ranked third in the county for economic development in 2023 with $10.5 million invested in the township for business growth.
• Are seeking applicants for two openings on the zoning appeals board.
• Set the records committee meeting for 6 p.m. Monday at the township garage.
• Announced the Champion Rotary will hold a community event 8 to 11 a.m. March 9 at Champion Presbyterian Church. There will be food, children's games, face painting and a visit from the Easter Bunny.
• Announced employee drug-free workplace training will be held 6 p.m. March 4 and 9 a.m. March 5 with supervisor training 10 a.m. March 5 at the fire department.
