WARREN -- The Trumbull County Board of Elections certified partisan candidates, questions, issues and local options set to appear on the March 19 primary election ballot without any exclusions at its meeting Tuesday.
Board of Elections Executive Director Stephanie Penrose said there was "not one questionable petition," submitted to the board of elections and that "everything was pretty much perfect."
Board members were ecstatic that there were no hiccups.
"Everything's on there, everything's good to go, everything's in order, so that's great," board president Mark Alberini said.
Penrose said the lack of any issues regarding the petitions could be because the election is being held during an even numbered year.
"I think sometimes in even-year elections where you have a lot less petitions you actually do have perfect years," Penrose said. "When you have 150 (to) 200 petitions in the odd (numbered) years then you tend to have a few questionable petitions."
Penrose said the ballot language is still being reviewed by state officials but all signatures and paperwork submitted to the board of elections was approved. Penrose said the review by the state will likely have no impact on the local ballot candidates and issues.
"Ballot language goes to the state and they usually tweak a word or two here or there," Penrose said. "I've never had one come back and they say 'Oh, you can't put this on,' or anything like that. It's just a formality that the state approves all ballot language."
