WHAT: City council meeting Wednesday

PRESENT: Robert Marino, Todd Weddell, Aaron Johnstone, James Sheely, Michael Lastic, Jimmy Julian, Doug Sollitto and Mayor Steve Mientkiwiecz

ABSENT: Mindy DeVorich

Council:

• Approved committee appointments: Johnstone to community development / neighborhood stabilization; DeVorich, finance; Lastic, improvements; Sollitto, public grounds; Sheely, safety; Weddell, technology; and Julian, utilities.

• Named Sollitto as council president pro-tem, who will handle the duties of council president when Marino is not able to attend.

• Heard from Johnstone that Niles board member Mary Ann McMahon is the community engagement liaison from the board to attend council meetings, Marino said it is important for the schools and city to work together.

• Announced there are two openings on the nuisance abatement board which addresses nuisance complaints on houses or properties. Letters of interest can be sent to the clerk by Jan. 26.

• Approved a proceeding with the purchase of three police vehicles through the state cooperative purchasing program as part of the city's police vehicle replacement program. The city also will seek to purchase ammunition for the police through cooperative purchasing.

• Approved sale by Internet auction of obsolete items no longer needed by the city.

• Will seek a request for qualifications for professional consultant services for the city for various projects.
