WHAT: Board of Education meeting Thursday
PRESENT: Diane Alejars, Joseph Cason, Joseph Datchuk, Sue Ellen Davis and Vince Ragozine
The board:
• Heard from Alejars that the Girard Education Association, which represents certified staff, has a contract that ends Aug. 15 and the Ohio Association of Public School Employees classified staff's contract ends June 30. A preliminary meeting to begin negotiations with the two unions will be Feb. 6.
• Heard from Alejars the board will meet with Strollo Architects on reducing aspects of the planned performing arts center to reduce the costs. Officials are looking to have a center for programs and school events added to the high school but bids came in higher than expected.
• Approved no school for students April 8, which is the total solar eclipse. Staff will work a half-day in the morning.
• Approved membership in the Ohio High School Athletic Association.
• Approved the resignation of Damon LaRivere as head boys soccer coach effective Jan. 11.
