County grand jury to hear rape case

By Chris McBride 1 min read

WARREN -- The case of a Youngstown man accused of raping a 25-year-old Pittsburgh woman has been bound over to a Trumbull County grand jury.

Richard Williams, 35, is in the county jail on a $150,000 bond that was set in Warren Municipal Court.

Court records indicate that the incident happened in the Howland Township Police Department's jurisdiction June 9 at a Niles Cortland Road SE hotel.

The Howland police report states two detectives from its department took Williams into custody from Nobel Correctional Institute in Caldwell for an outstanding warrant related to the alleged rape.

He previously had been sentenced Aug. 8 in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to a six-month prison term for a charge of fifth-degree escape.

Williams was set to be released from prison and begin serving probation the day before detectives arrived to arrest him for the warrant earlier this month.
