Two local women recently advanced to the quarterfinals of the national "The Greatest Baker 2023" competition,

Vanessa Hall, who owns Noble Bakes LLC in Girard, is currently in first place while Alisha Davis, who owns Sweet Tooth to Go in Brookfield, is currently in fourth place.

The competition is run by Buddy Valastro, also known as the "Cake Boss," and he has partnered with Bake from Scratch Magazine and the Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation.

Hall said she is grateful for the support she's received during the competition.

"I entered into the competition on a whim, but I was kind of surprised to see the amount of support that Noble Bakes has and it's been really special," Hall said. "I never thought I would make it this far to be in the quarterfinals."

Hall said she first learned of the competition when she saw it advertised on Facebook.

"I'm going to keep hoping for the best and I'm grateful to even be part of this," she said. "The main goal is just to have the opportunity to meet more people and potentially have more clients. I love what I do and I love working with people."

Davis said she placed first in the wild card round and is excited to see where the competition goes next.

"I'm not sure what to expect going forward, but it's been a great experience either way," Davis said.

Davis said she is also grateful for the support.

"It's been truly amazing," she said. "I can't thank everyone enough for voting for me. I honestly had no idea how far I could go in the competition. I've met so many new people along the way as well."

Voting for the quarterfinals ends Thursday, Jan. 18.
