HUBBARD -- The Hubbard Board of Education honored various students and faculty members for their accomplishments at Monday's board meeting.
Among the students honored was Hubbard High School senior Christina Badurik, who was the overall winner of the 2023 Twenty Under 20 award, which is sponsored by the Tribune Chronicle, United Way of Trumbull County and Akron Children's Hospital Mahoning Valley.
Badurik is a 4.0 student, volunteers at her church and is involved in other organizations inside and outside of school.
"'I might have to get a B in this class because I don't feel like studying for an extra hour' but if you study for that extra hour, you might come across the one thing that you would have forgotten on the test or something," she said. "You just always have to keep pushing because that's the way to achieve anything."
Superintendent Raymond Solomon said Badurik was chosen out of 155 students.
Junior Isabella Williams also was honored for being nominated for the Twenty Under 20 Award.
Soloman said one of Williams' accomplishments was hosting a community basketball game for children with developmental disabilities.
"That's incredible, Isabella, (at) 17 years old to plan and to juggle your school work, your academics and then to raise over $4,100 is tremendous," he said.
The Hubbard High School boys soccer team was honored for being selected as Co-Northeast 8 champions. Caleb MacKay was one of the soccer team members who attended the board meeting.
MacKay said the key behind the team's success this season was "their bond."
"We had a lot of skill on the team so we were able to move around the whole time," he said.
Solomon said he is grateful for MacKay as well as all the other students who were honored.
"(We) appreciate all your work and the key is that everyone of you have excelled in something but you've always managed to keep your academics at the forefront," he said.
Addison Sarisky, a sophomore at Hubbard High School, was honored for her gymnastics skills. She traveled to Honolulu as a part of the 5 All-Star gymnastics team, which is made up of the top gymnasts from Region 5, which includes Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.
Solomon thanked Sarisky for "representing Hubbard" and for keeping up with her schoolwork and grades.
Hubbard High School art teacher Josh MacMillan also was honored for earning the Outstanding Art Teacher for the Northeast Region award from the Ohio Art Education Association, Solomon said.
"Josh was pulled from a collection of almost 2,000 art educators statewide," he said. "The talent this young man brings to all of our students (is amazing)."
