Donation drive planned in Girard

Family of four uninjured but displaced after Wednesday house fire

GIRARD -- A family of four has been displaced after a house fire broke out Wednesday evening causing their home to be deemed a total loss.

The family, which includes two parents, four children and one dog, were able to escape the blaze without injuries.

Now, the children's church and school are answering the call to help the family get back on its feet during the holiday season.

A letter from St. Rose Catholic Church sent out Thursday asked for support from community members with fundraising.

A clothing and gift card drive will be accepting donations on the Howard family's behalf until Wednesday at 2 p.m.

The family are parishioners of the church and their children also attend St. Rose Catholic School.

Those looking to participate can drop off donated items at St. Rose School during their normal hours of operation Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.

"We appreciate, in advance, all the support of our always generous St. Rose Community," a letter addressed from Father Jordan Kelly and Principal Anthony Catale stated.

Items will also be collected following all masses in the church, the release states.

The Howard family has four children, ages 5, 11, 13, and 14 that the drive is looking to collect clothing and other items for.

They're looking for pants in male sizes of 7, 12, 14/16 and female sizes 14/16. Also, clothing for an adult female shirts sizes XXL and male size L with a pant size of 30×29.

Late this week the school hosted a $2 dress down day at the school with proceeds going toward the family.

The family lost their home located in the 900 block of Tibbetts-Wick Road after a fire broke out on the home's second floor about 7 p.m. Wednesday. About 10:27 p.m., the last unit cleared the scene after stamping out the flames.

None of the family members were injured.

The fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal's office.
