Warren man is accused of assault

Suspect arraigned on felony counts including domestic violence

WARREN -- Police arrested a Warren man Tuesday morning after his girlfriend told the Trumbull County 911 Center he had cut her.

In the report, the woman told the 911 Center that Gary L. Arnio was her husband but the Warren City Police officers that were dispatched to 1360 Maplewood St. NE, his live-in residence, found he was her boyfriend. According to a police report, there were blood stains on the neck and shirt of the woman who made the call.

Arnio, 49, was arraigned Wednesday in Warren Municipal Court on felonious assault and domestic violence charges. His initial charges included disorderly conduct, strangulation and menacing by stalking.

A listed witness in the report also made contact with officers from the front porch of the home, upon their arrival. She told officers she heard yelling and arguing from the bedroom of Arnio and the victim.

The witness further explained to officers that she heard the assaulted woman tell Arnio she was leaving, to which he allegedly responded, "You ain't going anywhere," the report stated. After a physical altercation, she offered to call emergency medical services for the victim, who refused and told her that she only wanted to clean herself up.

During first contact with Arnio, police asked him to make himself known and come out from the bedroom located at the top of the steps to the second floor of the residence. Arnio complied with the officers' verbal instructions, exited the bedroom and walked downstairs to be handcuffed.

A verbal altercation turned into a physical altercation, the victim told officers in the report. She added that Arnio allegedly threw her on a bed, cut her neck with a "blade" and wrapped a belt around her neck and began strangling her.

She further mentioned that Arnio threatened to kill her, and that she ran out of the bedroom to the first floor bathroom to take a shower.

While scanning the bedroom for evidence, officers found multiple blood stains on a pillow located on the victim's bed, according to the report. In addition, they saw a Michael Kors belt with multiple blood stains on it, as well as a blood-free kitchen knife near the bed. Officers were unable to locate the weapon that the victim described as a "blade."

Later in the report, officers determined the witness was the woman's roommate.

The 911 Center advised the officers that Mr. Arnio had an outstanding warrant for menacing by stalking entered through Warren Municipal Court, by the Howland Township Police Department.

Officers explained that Arnio's computerized criminal history contained several felony domestic violence convictions, in the report.

Arnio was placed under arrest on the outstanding warrant and on a charge of felony domestic violence. While placing handcuffs on Arnio, officers stated in the report they observed blood stains on both of his hands and transported him to the Trumbull County jail.
