WHAT: Board of Education meeting Nov. 15
PRESENT: Teresa Oakes, Tonya Kline, Amie Crowder, Chris Mazur and Carol Mazanetz-Elliott
The board:
• Approved HALO Smart Sensors from Wadsworth Solutions for vape detectors for the school restrooms at $28,266 and an additional $11,021 for 10-year license plan and 10-year warranty. The items will be paid for by a $290,000 school safety / security grant. The work will be done in three to four months.
• Approved an agreement for Opengate Weapon Detection System from Wadsworth Solutions at $111,954 for five portable weapons detectors to be used at the schools and at school events. They will be paid for by a $290,000 school safety / security grant. The work will be done in three to four months.
• Heard from Treasurer Ben Marko of information received from Arcadia Towers asking the board to review the possibility of installation of a cell tower on leased school property. He said if a cell tower is erected, it would take one to two years and those using the towers would be tenants who would pay for usage with the schools to receive some of the funds. Marko said the matter is only being reviewed.
• Entered into an agreement with the Nutrition Group for food service management from Dec. 1, 2023 to July 31, 2024. Marko said the company will make the food purchases for the district and work with the school cafeteria staff. Marko said the cost of the food service manager is about $50,000 annually. He said the district does expect cost savings on food purchases with the hope that if the district gets increased participation, it would lead to increases in revenue as well.
• Approved the construction of a pavilion at the K-5 elementary school at a cost of $21,000 paid by the ABC Club.
