WARREN -- Dr. Alisha Alls received the highest percentage of votes for the Warren Board of Education, receiving 29%, according to unofficial results from the Trumbull County Board of Elections.
She will unseat John Fowley, who received the lowest percentage of votes, receiving 20%. Patricia Limperos received 26% of the vote and Julian Walker received 24%.
Alls thanked the voters and said she is looking forward to working with Limperos, Walker and the rest of the board.
"I do want to congratulate all of the candidates really," Alls said. "It was a great race. I look forward to helping to make changes on the board and helping the students in Warren City Schools.
Alls, a student success coach at Eastern Gateway Community College, challenged the three incumbents, saying she wanted to see more parents and guardians attend school events by providing information, such as letters to students' homes or text messages, about the programs at least one week in advance, whether or not they are listed on the school calendar.
Alls also pointed to improved teacher retention and equitable budgeting and spending as priorities.
"Overall, just increasing advancements for our students," she said.
Limperos is currently vice president of the board. She has been a member since Jan. 1, 2008. She is an administrative assistant with Kent State University's Trumbull Branch, a position she has held since 2016.
Limperos said the district has come a long way in academic performance since she joined the board, but she believes Warren City Schools must continue to progress.
Limperos also pointed to teacher retention and the completion of the district's new Student Wellness & Recreation Center as priorities.
Fowley has been a member of the board since 2019. He was a sales representative at Herff Jones Inc. from 1973 to 2016. He is now retired.
Fowley said he had hoped to get reelected to pursue his priorities, including allowing students to having the freedom to learn, the continued integration of technology throughout the district and that the board continues to complete its duties legally.
