By Staff report 2 min read

WARREN -- The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1090 in Warren will continue celebrating its 100th anniversary by playing a large role in this year's Trumbull County Veterans Day ceremony and parade.

The annual ceremony and parade will be Nov. 10 because Veterans Day, Nov. 11, falls on a Saturday. The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 256 Mahoning Ave. NW.

The VFW Post 1090 will have historical photos and other memorabilia on display at the church.

The Cortland Community Band will play starting at 10:15 a.m. until the 11 a.m. ceremony.

The Post also will organize a color guard and lead the parade, which will immediately follow the ceremony. It will host a public open house after the parade at its site at 611 High St.

The parade lineup will be in Perkins Park between the Women's Park and Trumbull County Tourism Bureau.

The parade, which is sponsored by the Tribune Chronicle, will travel south on Mahoning Avenue, past a review stand set up near the Trumbull County Veterans Memorial and then east on Market Street through the downtown area, ending at Vine and High streets.

Walking units, vehicles, floats or other types of units will be featured in the parade and will be decorated with a patriotic theme. Veterans whose stories were told this year as part of the Tribune Chronicle veterans series will participate in the parade, and their names will appear on the sides of vehicles.

Participants are being sought for the parade. There is no charge to participate and the deadline to enter is Nov. 1.

To participate, contact Tribune Chronicle community events coordinator Sue Shafer at 330-841-1696 or at sshafer@tribtoday.com to request a form, or pick one up in the newspaper lobby at 240 Franklin St. NE, Warren.

Last year's Veterans Day parade was canceled because of inclement weather. It also was canceled in 2020 because of the pandemic. The newspaper started organizing the parade in 2003.
