WHAT: Board of Education October meeting

PRESENT: Beth Haddle, Ken Wallace, Michele Garman, Mark Haddle and Joel Polonus

The Board:

• Heard from Superintendent Russell McQuaide that work was done at the high school gymnasium to address flooding on the floor. He said foundation work and water prevention work was completed.

• Scheduled a work session for 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the board offices to address the closing of Currie Elementary School in Fowler which houses grades K-2. McQuaide said officials are reviewing whether to sell or demolish the school building after it is no longer used by the school district. For the 2024-25 year, grades K-2 will be housed at Baker Elementary which is currently undergoing remodeling work.

• Are seeking proposals and bids for food vendors The district has worked with the Nutrition Group and is •ooking for food management services for the cafeterias.

• Discussed whether to hold school or not on April 8, 2024, on the solar eclipse.

• Approved a shared pupil services agreement with Lordstown schools with Jennifer Soukenik serving both school districts with Mathews paying 60% and Lordstown paying 40% for pupil services. Officials said the position is $39,000,

• Discussed extension of sanitary sewer lines from Baker School to Route 193 along Sheridan Drive. Russell said $437,000 in American Recovery Plan funds were sought from the Trumbull County commissioners for the sanitary lines.

• Approved a memorandum of understanding with the Mathews Education Association which represents teachers that the new minimum teacher salary schedule start at $35,000.

• Heard from McQuaide the stands for the athletic complex were delivered this month as part of the next phase of the project.

• Approved paying $25 per hour who serve as threat assessment / safety assessment team members.

• Hired Michelle Zajac for food service for five hours per day at $15.21 per hour and sweeper cleaner $13.84 per hour floating position.
