HUBBARD -- Hubbard Board of Education met Wednesday and discussed a five-year strategic plan to help improve its schools.
Youngstown State professor Dr. Danny Cesene will be assisting the board with the planning process.
While the plan is still a work in progress, Cesene said that it is going to be a community-driven strategic plan.
"We're going to unite community members," he said. "We're going to create what we call focus groups and they'll help us to develop really broad goals (for the plan) along with strategies to accomplish these goals."
Cesene and the board will create a steering committee, which will include community liaisons who will represent stakeholder groups such as parents, teacher / staff, business owners, community support organizations, senior citizens, general public and alumni and town officials. He says they will help with uniting, creating and accomplishing the goals of the strategic plan.
Board President Amanda O'Neill said that the plan hasn't been developed yet but Cesene and the board will form different groups in order to establish common goals for plan.
"We created a four-phase process that will be used to carry out this goal-planning community engagement," Cesene said.
Cesene said the strategic plan will be developed by June.
Cesene has been teaching since 2014 and said he has experience in strategic planning.
"I need to credit (some) small nonprofit organizations and a couple corporations (that) have asked me do some consultation," he said. "I was thrilled to death to come and be a part of this."
In other action, board members:
• Approved motion to accept donations for the Hubbard Community Pool. The donations were from J.M. Verostko Inc. for $400, Loving Pet Memorial for $300 and Stewart Furniture for $300.
• Approved Trumbull County Educational Service Center certified and classified substitute list for the school year 2023-24.
• Approved Hubbard Exempted Village School District classified substitute list for the school year 2023-24.
• Approved the resignation of Hubbard High School / Middle School nurse LuAnn Eger for retirement, effective Sept. 1, 2024.
• Approved motion to hire Joshua Foster as a Trumbull County Drone Racing League supplemental for a $500 stipend through a sub-grant from the Trumbull County Educational Service Center.
• Approved motion to hire Becky Ague as a home instruction tutor for eighth grade, for five hours per week.
