Elm Road home burglarized, video shows dog beating

Campbell woman facing a felony charge in break-in

WARREN -- A Campbell woman who was caught on a doorbell camera beating a women's dog with a shovel and burglarizing her Elm Road home was indicted Wednesday by a grand jury on charges of second-degree felony burglary and a misdemeanor charge of killing or injuring animals.

On Aug. 10, police arrived to a home in the 1500 block of Elm Road NE for reports of a burglary in progress at the residence.

The victim's alarm was activated while she was away from home. She checked her cameras and she could hear a woman, who was later identified as 43-year-old Eatta Clardy, talking in her home.

The victim told police that nobody should be home and her dog was supposed to be outside.

According to the report, two officers arrived at the home, entering via a back door, and encountered Clardy inside the home.

Clardy told police her name was 'Seven' and that she lived in the home.

Police did not believe her ruse and detained her with handcuffs.

Police asked Clardy if she removed anything from the home.

She stayed committed to her story telling the officers, "Why would I? I live here."

When officers looked around the house, they observed several family photos of the homeowner and her children.

Officers said none of the photos featured the woman, who then was arrested by the police.

A green and black Steve Madden bookbag believed to belong to the homeowner was taken off Clardy but was found to belong to a different person, according to a debit card found inside.

The homeowner met with police at her Elm Road home where she showed the officers security camera footage that allegedly shows Clardy abusing the woman's 17 1/2-year-old, blind, deaf and lightweight dog Ellie.

The report details that footage shows Clardy carry the dog by the collar and try to open a gate.

When she opened the gate, the officer in the report described that Clardy threw Ellie like a "shot put" down the driveway.

Clardy's alleged assault escalated as she then struck the dog several times with a shovel.

Bystanders had taken the dog to the hospital but the condition of the dog was not in the police report.
