Warren police ID victim in shooting

Eric Shannon, 36, slain near Parkman, McMyler

WARREN — The Warren Police Department has identified the victim in Sunday night’s fatal shooting as 36-year-old Eric Shannon, according to a news release.

The shooting happened around 8 p.m. in the area of Parkman Road and McMyler Street NW.

Police responded to the 1100 block of McMyler after reports of shots fired. Officers found Shannon on the porch. Paramedics attempted to perform CPR, but Shannon was later pronounced dead.

A dispatch call sheet states that a neighbor who witnessed the shooting from her porch saw Shannon fire shots at a neighbor across the street.

The caller said Shannon and the neighbor had been fighting all day prior to the shooting.

Warren Safety Service Director Eddie Colbert urged community members to find better ways to resolve their personal differences in a way that doesn’t result in a loss of life.

He also urged a better relationship between police and residents, which he said can translate into solving crimes.

“Where you have these types of incidents with zero accountability and people not willing to come forward with information, it makes things harder,” Colbert said. “The better communication departments across the country have with their citizens, the more likely there is to be arrests and prosecution.”

A 35-year-old woman had just dropped her children off at a bus stop Monday morning near the home where the fatal shooting occurred. She had heard the shots as she was giving her kids a bath the night before. She’s lived in the area for six months and has been a resident of Warren for nine years.

She called the city’s bouts with shootings “ridiculous at this point.” The woman said she questions what the city has come to as she’s considered leaving the area over the past few years.

“People doing the shooting don’t comprehend that one stray bullet could have taken somebody else’s life. It could’ve been somebody’s child or whoever. How would they’ve felt if you went to try to shoot somebody and end up being your own kin? That ended up in the misfire?” she said.

The investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone with information about this case to contact Detective John Greaver at 330-841-2723 or by email jgreaver@warren.org.
