WARREN -- A sex offender was arrested Thursday after failing to report a change of address stemming from a previous conviction of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.
Matthew Guthrie, 35, with a listed address on Amy Boyle Road NE in Brookfield, was found by the Trumbull County Sheriff's Office to be staying at a home in Hermitage, Pa., with his girfriend and her children.
On Sept. 6, Russell Molinatto of the sheriff's Sex Offender Division investigated Guthrie's whereabouts at a Maple Drive home in Pennsylvania.
He said he spoke to the mother of Guthrie's girlfriend, who said Guthrie didn't have her permission to stay, but he had been living at the home since he and her daughter started dating about three weeks prior, a sheriff's report states.
When asked if she was aware that Guthrie was a convicted sex offender, the mother told the deputy that she was aware of his sex offender status, saying that his victim was 17, the report states. Molinatto then informed the mother that Guthrie’s victim was 13, according to the report. The woman told the deputy she wanted Guthrie out immediately along with his belongings, which included a motorcycle he had parked in her driveway.
On Sept. 14, the woman sent Molinatto photos of mail addressed to Guthrie now being sent to her home.
Speaking over the phone to the deputy, she told him that she informed her daughter and found more personal belongings, including clothes, a wallet and his state ID, showing that Guthrie had been staying there.
Guthrie denied living at the home, reports state. He told authorities that he only stayed there sometimes with his girlfriend.
Guthrie is in Trumbull County jail in lieu of $5,000 bail as he awaits a court appearance in Warren Municipal Court next Thursday.
In October 2012, following an acceptance of a plea to the indictment in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court, Guthrie was sentenced by former Judge Peter J. Kontos to 15 months at Lorain Correctional Institution on the rape charge.
