Steven Billock rejects plea on rape and child porn charges
WARREN — A plea agreement for a Newton Falls man facing 31 child porn and rape charges was rejected, setting in motion plans for a jury trial next week.
Steven Billock, 39, was made an offer in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court on Tuesday by the prosecution team of 51 years to life in prison, instead of a potential sentence of life without parole. Billock and his legal team rejected the offer before Judge Andrew D. Logan.
The charges tally 31 counts of rape, attempted rape, pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor, gross sexual imposition and illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material.
Assistant Prosecutor Gabe Wildman called the evidence against Billock the “worst child pornography” that he will reveal in a courtroom, saying there is a “substantial amount.”
A jury trial will take place before Logan starting Monday.
A news release from the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office stated previously that “numerous pieces” of evidence were collected during a raid of Billock’s Grant Avenue home in Newton Falls.
That day, Billock was arrested on a warrant unrelated to the investigation.
The search warrant was obtained by the sheriff’s office after receiving an investigative tip.
An 8-year-old was taken into custody by Trumbull County Children Services after he was found during execution of the search warrant. The news release states that the child has been placed into foster care.
