Silly Science Sunday will kick off a week of educational program organized by OH WOW! The Roger & Gloria Jones Children's Center for Science & Technology.
This is the 13th year for Silly Science Sunday which will take over downtown Youngstown's Central Square from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Children can watch watermelons explode from the force of rubber bands, run through a vat of Oobleck and watch hundreds of rockets made from film cannisters explode.
The event will include hands-on activities, exhibitors and stage shows all related to science, technology, reading, engineering, art and mathematics (STREAM).
According to Colleen Ruby, OH WOW's director of operations, "Silly Science Sunday is a day meant for all ages to visit OH WOW! and get excited about STREAM education in the Mahoning Valley. We encourage exploration and experimentation at the museum every day, and Silly Science is an expansion of our mission."
Exhibitors include Youngstown State University College of STEM,YWCA Mahoning Valley, First Robotics, The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, MCCTC, Valley STEM Academy, BRITE Energy Innovators, Western Reserve Media PBS and Daniel Tiger, Home Depot-Austintown, SMARTS, Sharon Robotics, City Machine Technologies, OSU Mobile Unit and Animal Welfare League-Trumbull County
In addition to exhibitors, there also will be food vendors, including Sweet Sips, One Hot Cookie, Armida's Cucina and G&G Concessions.
This year the event is a kickoff to 7 Days of STREAM, Youngstown's regional science and technology festival.
Monday through Sept. 23, OHWOW! has invited its community partners to host STREAM related activities at their locations.
