BRISTOL -- Township trustees are inviting residents interested in filling an opening on the trustee board to attend the Sept. 19 meeting, where candidates will each be given a chance to speak.
Trustee Chairman Mark Webb said Tuesday he and trustee Jim Cicchillo decided to invited interested candidates to the next meeting at 6 p.m. where each person will be given five minutes to discuss why they want to be a trustee and what they would do for the community.
"We have already been made aware of individuals who have expressed interest in serving," Webb said.
He said trustees will review the applicants and make a decision on who will fill the remainder of the term of Ramon French, who retired Aug. 31 after serving 41 years.
Webb said the person chosen will serve the remainder of 2023 and all of 2024 and 2025.
French said last month he enjoyed serving the community, but said it is time to step down and pass the baton to someone else to spend more time with his family and travel with his wife, Cheryl.
"Public service, even at the smaller level, is never easy. It takes commitment and focus. When I ran again in 2021, I intended that to be my final four-year term. In the past few months, the opportunity to slow down and roll into retirement has looked more and more appealing," he said.
French thanked the community for its support over the years and for re-electing him each time he was on the ballot.
Webb said French helped him when he became a trustee, and Cicchillo said he has learned a lot working with French.
French said he was proud of working to get a new fire department building constructed, many roads paved and resurfaced over the years, getting a banquet hall at the township building, establishing a Bristol Historical Museum inside a former church, and relocating a historic barbershop and doctor's office to the township center.
