YOUTH DAY: Grace AME Church, 1137 Main Ave. SW, Warren, will host a Celebration of Youth Day from noon to 5 p.m. Aug. 19. The event will include community outreach, children's activities, giveaways, food and school supplies. The event was organized by the members of the church and the Rev. Shane K. Floyd. Various organizations will participate.
PRAISE ON THE PATIO: First Presbyterian Church of Hubbard, 22 Westview Ave., will host a hymn sing at 7 p.m. Sunday with the Simple Gifts Choir. The 60-voice choir will sing classic, gospel and contemporary hymn favorites. Guest musicians will accompany the choir and soloists. A free-will offering will be taken to benefit the Hubbard Community Supply Pantry. Those attending can bring a lawn chair.
VOICES OF MARTYRS: The Voice of the Martyrs will host a Hearts for Fire virtual event at 6 p.m. Sunday at New Covenant Baptist Church, 1606 Salt Spring Road, Lordtown. There will be testimonies of Gracia Burnham, Anita Smith, Helen Berhane and Susanna Koh. Music will be provided by Michael Smith.
HOPE FEST: New Bethel Baptist Church in Youngstown will host a Hope Fest from 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 23 at the LA Simon Building, 1528 Hillman St., Youngstown. There also will be a service 10:30 a.m. Aug. 27 at the church, 1507 Hillman St. Guest speakers are Minister Christian Joy Roberts of Change Church of New Jersey.
MOVIE TO BE SHOWN: New Life Community Church, 504 Youngstown Kingsville Road, Vienna, will show the movie "The Identical" at 7 p.m. Aug. 25. Movie and snacks are free.
FEAST OF ASSUMPTION: Hubbard St. Patrick Parish, 225 N. Main St., will celebrate the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary with Mass at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday followed by an indoor rosary procession with the Blue Coat Band and a reception.
HOPE FOR RENEWAL: The Bob Steck Memorial Corn Roast will be 5 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Canfield Presbyterian Church, 140 W. Main St.
SLOVAK FEST: The 18th annual Mahoning Valley Sklovak Fest will be noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at the St. Matthias Church grounds off Shady Run Road. The Del Sinchak Orchestra will play live music 1 to 4 pm.
HOMECOMING SUNDAY: General Assembly Church of God, 2021 E. River Road, Newton Falls, will host Homecoming Sunday at 11 a.m. Sunday. There will be guest singers including Midnight Storm and 5 for the Gospel.
GUEST MUSICIAN: Bristol Community Church, at state Routes 45 and 88 in Bristolville, will host Dan Schall of Zelienople, Pa., a nationally known and acclaimed musician at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 27 during a morning concert.
His musical repertoire includes everything from favorite old hymns to contemporary Christian tunes to some of his originals.
Dan and his wife, Linda, travel thousands of miles each year spreading the Gospel message. His ministry actually had its beginnings when he was in his teens and has continued to this day. He has recorded much of his music and CD's will be available following the concert.
A love offering will be received for the Dan Schall Ministries.
SOUND THERAPY: The Unity Spiritual Centre, 1226 Naylor Lloyd Road, Liberty, will have Marla and Calvin Wagner for Sound Therapy at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Sound therapy has been used for centuries by different cultures for balance and healing. Those attending can bring a pillow or blanket. For information, call 330-539-0122.
100-YEAR ANNIVERSARY: First Baptist Church of Braceville, 1300 Cedar St. SW, will celebrate its 100th anniversary Aug. 26 and 27. The celebratory banquet will be 5 to 9 p.m. Aug. 26 at Aulizio's Banquet Center, 4395 Youngstown Road SE. Tickets are $35 for adults and $20 for children under 12. Tickets may be purchased from any First Baptist member, or directly at the church on Sundays from 2 to 3 p.m. The final anniversary service will be 11 a.m. Aug. 27 at the church.
LABYRINTH WALK: The Ursuline Education and Wellness Center, 4280 Shields Road, has begun its 13th year of labyrinth walks. While the labyrinth is open year-round, themed and guided labyrinth walks are offered by trained facilitators during the warm-weather season.
Each walk is led by a different facilitator, either an Ursuline sister or associate, with the meditation centering on a related theme.
This year's theme is compassion, a virtue central to the programs of Ursuline Sisters Mission.
All people of faith are invited to these free, weather-permitting events. Walks last about a half hour.
This year's schedule is: 6:30 p.m. Thursday -- Compassion for Family; 6:30 p.m. Sept. 21 -- Compassion for the Marginalized; and 2 p.m. Oct. 15 -- Compassion for the Journey.
The labyrinth is open dawn to dusk. There's no cost to use the labyrinth.
MARCH ON WASHINGTON: Second Baptist Church "A House of Hope" in Warren is hosting "Freedom Sings," a free communitywide event commemorating the 60th anniversary of the March on Washington at 6 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Warren Community Amphitheatre.
The historic March on Washington, led by various civil rights organizations, took place on Aug. 28, 1963, and featured Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s famed "I Have A Dream" speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, marking a pivotal moment in the Civil Rights movement.
