WHAT: Board of education meeting Aug. 17
PRESENT: Cory Freeman, Megan Gibbs, Steve Gilanyi, Terry Kelly and Betsy Dunn
The board:
• Approved that starting with the graduating Class of 2024, the top 10% of the graduating class will be recognized as distinguished scholars because of smaller graduating classes. Officials said 20 students are in the senior class this year and last year it was 35. In past years, the top 10 students were recognized as distinguished scholars and now it will be the top 10%;
• Announced fourth- and fifth-graders will start their school day earlier this year at 7:25 a.m. along with grades six to 12 for bus transportation purposes. Grades kindergarten to third will start at 8:25 a.m.;
• Approved an agreement with the Ohio Association of Public School Employees Local 673 to have four-hour bus driver positions;
• Approved students in sixth and seventh grades attending Camp Fitch Sept. 6 to 8 in North Springfield, Pa.;
• Approved a contract with the Trumbull County Educational Service Center at $561,618 for various special education services;
• Hired Mike Karr as head boys basketball coach;
• Accepted the resignation of Taylor Pishotti as an intervention specialist.
