WARREN -- A Girard woman is facing mandatory incarceration after committing her sixth OVI offense within the last 15 years.
Suzanne Ginty, 55, stood before Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge Cynthia Rice and pleaded guilty to her most recent charge, in which responding officers reported her blood-alcohol level at 0.36. The legal limit for driving in Ohio is 0.08.
Ginty will be sentenced following a background investigation conducted by probation officers. She remains free, but must not leave her ZIP code area, after posting 10 percent of a $12,500 cash or surety bond. She is under electronically monitored house arrest.
On Sept. 6, 2022, Liberty Township police stopped Ginty, of Shannon Road, after an officer reported the driver, while northbound on state Route 193 at East Liberty Street, left her lane and almost struck his police cruiser.
Another officer reported seeing a 16-ounce container of Smirnoff Blue Ice in the center console of her 2007 Buick. Ginty confirmed to the officers that she had alcohol during the day, and that she was sent home from work.
The officer also said Ginty's eyes were "barely open," and that she was very "unsteady" on her feet, having difficulty understanding their request for her to sit on a squad car bumper.
Paramedics were called and treated abrasions on both elbows from her falling during the field sobriety test, the report states. The arrest immediately was deemed a fourth-degree felony due to her prior OVI convictions.
Court records state Ginty was convicted on OVI charges March 7, 2018, in Girard Municipal Court; twice Nov. 11, 2014, in Girard court; April 7, 2011, in Struthers Municipal Court; and Oct. 4, 2007, in Mahoning County Court in Austintown.
OTHER CASES
Steven Heckman, 23, of Elmhill Drive NW, Warren, pleaded not guilty to charges of illegal conveyance of drugs and aggravated possession of drugs.
Heckman was picked up on a warrant over the weekend, and remains in Trumbull County jail in lieu of a $5,000 cash or surety bond. The case was opened Feb. 1, 2021, and Heckman's next pretrial hearing is set for Sept. 12.
David C. Johnson, 38, of Green Acres Drive, Liberty, pleaded not guilty to two counts of aggravated trafficking in drugs and three counts of aggravated possession of drugs.
Johnson's indictment is connected to a March 3 case. Johnson was released on a $10,000 personal recognizance bond, but must appear for regular drug tests, and his next court appearance is set for Aug. 28.
