WARREN -- Police arrested a Warren man found to have a warrant as they investigated reports of shots fired in a Warren neighborhood.

Police say they discovered Tayjhon Baugh, 24, of Woodbine Avenue SE, on Friday in the basement of a home on Highland Avenue SW. They were performing a wellness check at the home after noticing it had been struck by the gunfire.

On Monday, Baugh pleaded not guilty in Warren Municipal Court to a charge connected to the warrant, discharging a firearm. He is due back in court Aug. 21, according to court records.

Shots were fired in the area of Fourth Street SW and Highland Avenue SW about 10:40 p.m. Dispatchers told police two people wearing all black clothing were seen leaving the area heading east on Fourth Street.

Police searched the Highland homes east of where shots occurred. They spotted an open door to a home officers believed was vacant because of the unkempt yard and lack of furnishings, so they entered for a wellness check. Multiple shell casings were found in the driveway and back yard of the home.

Across the street, police noticed a home had been struck by bullets, prompting another wellness check, and the discovery of Baugh in the basement.

Baugh told police he was grazed by a bullet on his right thumb. Emergency medical services were called to treat him.

Officers took Baugh to the Trumbull County jail after discovering the arrest warrant.

The homeowner arrived, but declined to allow police to further search the home.

So far this month, there have been at least five reports of shots fired and investigated by police. So far this year, Warren plice have investigated about 70 calls of shots fired, according to police.
