FIRST FRIDAY CLUB: The First Friday Club of Greater Youngstown speaker series will host Joan Lawson on Aug. 3.
Lawson will present "What's New (and Old) in the Archives of the Diocese of Youngstown" and will take a look at why we need a diocesan archive, what is collected, why it matters, and what hope and history are contained in it. The lecture will be at Avion on the Water Banquet Center, 2177 W. Western Reserve Road in Canfield.
Lawson is the chancellor and archivist for the Diocese of Youngstown, a position that brings together the two halves of her professional life -- the first of which was spent in public history museums and archives, and the second half in church ministry.
For the church, she spent 22 years in parish and diocesan ministry with an emphasis on religious education, liturgy and pastoral ministry. Prior to life in full-time church ministry, Lawson worked for 20 years in public history doing research, education, exhibits and collections care for historical agencies in Massachusetts, Northern Ireland and Ohio.
An opportunity for participants' questions will follow the talk. Luncheon will be served at 11:30 a.m. with the presentation beginning at noon. The cost is $20. Call by Friday at 330-720-4498. Reservations are limited.
