WARREN -- A Youngstown man accused in a Feb. 5 home invasion that resulted in the death of 28-year-old Adam Spaid rejected a plea deal, and is headed toward a jury trial July 31 in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.
The prosecution offered Ronieque Requel, 26, of 196 W. Myrtle Ave., a deal that would have required him to plead guilty to his charges in exchange for a prison sentence of 40 years to life.
Instead, Requel has opted to go to trial.
Requel is facing charges of two counts of aggravated murder, one count of aggravated robbery, one count of aggravated burglary, one count of having weapons while not permitted, one count of intimidation and one count of receiving stolen property. Four of the charges against him come with firearm specifications.
Police officers found Spaid mortally wounded at a Milton Street SE address while investigating a burglary.
At the Feb. 10 bond hearing, Assistant Prosecutor Christopher Becker said Requel posed a "great threat to the community," and has threatened victims and witnesses in the case.
Becker said more than 30 rounds were shot during the home invasion that included five assailants.
Spaid died after being taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital with major injuries, according to the police report.
