BAZETTA -- With cooperative weather and newly paved parking areas, the Trumbull County Fair had a good six days with nearly 50,000 people attending.

Michele Smith, fair board secretary, said the fair's attendance total was an increase from 2022, which saw nearly 47,000 visitors.

Smith said of the six days, Sunday saw the most visitors at nearly 14,000. She said the final day of the fair often is the best because of the demolition derby.

The next best attended day was opening day July 11, which had a $2 admission that saw 11,000 visitors. She said the fair had good weather, with rain only on July 12 and part of Saturday.

Smith said because of the rain July 12, it was the lowest attended day at 4,000 visitors.

"I feel this was a good year and one that was not affected by COVID-19. Our attendance numbers have come back up. There were a lot of families who attended," she said.

Smith said before the pandemic, the fair always had more than 45,000 visitors and the numbers have been increasing since the pandemic ended.

Smith said in 2020 the fair was canceled because of the pandemic and in 2021, attendance was at 44,000. Fair officials said the demolition derby, the rodeo, livestock shows, pig races, and truck and tractor pulls always bring in large crowds.

Daily attendance was 11,000 on July 11, 4,000 on July 12, nearly 6,000 Thursday, about 10,000 Friday, about 8,000 Saturday and nearly 14,000 Sunday.

Smith said she was not surprised that Saturday's numbers were lower because of some rain and the threat of rain throughout the day.

Fair officials said new this year was paved parking areas, which received positive comments from visitors. There also were electrical upgrades.

Smith said the coal mining exhibit, which was new to the historic village, also was a popular attraction.

"The historic village did very well this year," she said.
