WARREN -- A Warren woman and a Struthers teenager pleaded not guilty to murder charges in separate cases Tuesday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.
In the first case, a Warren motorist accused of running over and killing 36-year-old Jesaree Harris had her bond continued for $250,000. Kenyana Pennock, 36, appeared in Judge Andrew D. Logan's courtroom wearing civilian clothing when she pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, felonious assault and reckless homicide.
Pennock is accused of running over Harris on Nov. 6. The initial charge of felonious assault against Pennock was upgraded to murder after Harris died six days after being struck.
The day after Harris died, Pennock turned herself in to Trumbull County authorities.
SECOND MURDER CASE
The second murder case in Logan's court saw Christian Chaney, 17, of Struthers, plead not guilty in the Feb. 5 shooting death of Adam Spaid, 29. A bond of $1 million was set for Chaney.
Recently, the Trumbull County Prosecutor's Office announced it would charge Chaney as an adult on two counts of aggravated murder, aggravated burglary and aggravated robbery -- all with specifications that a firearm was used in commission of a crime.
Chaney was moved from his initial holding in the Trumbull County Juvenile Detention Center to the county jail.
A 26-year-old Warren man, Ronique Requel, previously was charged with two counts of aggravated murder, aggravated burglary, aggravated robbery, having weapons under disability, intimidation of a witness, victim or attorney and receiving stolen property.
The charges against both men stem from a home invasion and the death of Spaid. Police officers found the victim dead at a Milton Street SE address while investigating a burglary.
Spaid died after being taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. His injuries included apparent broken bones, a severe laceration and possible internal injuries, according to the police report.
THIRD MURDER CASE
A third murder case was heard Tuesday before Judge Ronald Rice for Kashaun Robin Williams, 29. During that hearing, Williams' pretrial hearings were scheduled for Aug. 22 and Oct. 17. A jury trial date would be set for Oct. 30.
Williams was indicted in a special Trumbull County grand jury report charging him with two counts of aggravated murder and one count each of attempted murder, felonious assault, kidnapping, aggravated burglary, having weapons while under disability, receiving stolen property and assault on a peace officer. The first six charges carry specifications of aggravating circumstances, repeat violent offender and committing the crime using a firearm.
The aggravating-circumstances specification carries possible death-penalty level punishment because two or more people were targeted and other felonies were committed in the act of the aggravated murder, according to court officials.
Williams is accused in the killing of 34-year-old James Chapman. Chapman was found shot to death early April 2 at a Lener Avenue SW address.
Williams was arrested by Warren police shortly after Chapman died from gunshot wounds. The other shooting victim, Marina Lee Moore, 23, of Warren, was taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds to her body and other injuries consistent with being hit and / or beaten with a gun, according to an affidavit written by Warren detectives.
