WHAT: Trustees meeting Tuesday
PRESENT: Bill Colletta, Rick Hernandez and Fred Hanley
Trustees:
• Met with Hubbard Mayor Ben Kyle on senior citizens programs. Trustees agreed to join the city with SCOPE to operate and coordinate events for senior citizens. They will be using the senior center as a main gathering center for city and township residents;
• Heard from Hernandez, who attended a meeting on the Maplewood project at the Trumbull County Sanitary Engineer's Office. He said the project study will be finished by year's end with construction estimated to begin in 2026;
• Announced the 2024 Ohio Public Works Commission paving proposals for the township are Anthony Circle, Mount Everett Road, the east section, and all sections of Laurel Park. Officials said the township will take on the paving of Pound Road;
• Announced the new township website is available to the public at www.hubbardtwpohio.us;
• Hired Ronald Reed as a police officer effective June 15;
• Announced there has been an increase in stolen property in the township;
• Approved the zoning department sending a letter to Lamar Sign Company to remove or rebuild the billboard sign on state Route 304 and Gale Avenue;
• Contacted Emergency Management Agency Director John Hickey and Vienna trustee Phil Pegg to include Hubbard Township trustees in the upcoming EMA storm response group meeting on June 27 at Kent State University at Trumbull;
• Trustees will schedule a special meeting to establish a local emergency action plan. Colletta previously has built several emergency plans in the past;
• Reported the township administration building restroom update had asbestos testing completed. Officials said the report was negative. The bidding process for the project now will begin;
• Announced a contract with Ohio Edison is moving forward with a street light on Catherine Street;
• Heard from Hanley that he met with the county engineer and Kirila Construction concerning the 2023 Ohio Public Works Commission road paving for Hubbard Thomas Road, with work to begin soon;
• Reported the Eastgate Regional Council of Governments will host a public meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Hubbard council chambers, concerning Ohio EPA watershed stream study for Little Yankee Run, which caused flooding for several businesses and closure of the Interstate 80 exit ramp;
• Reported the Power Coalition is hosting a meeting at 8 a.m. Thursday at the Eastgate office concerning water and power needs for Trumbull and Mahoning counties;
• Reported there will be a meeting at 5 p.m. July 11 with Julie Green, director of the Trumbull County Planning Commission, concerning a joint land use study and working in conjunction with the Youngstown Air Reserve Station military compatibility area. The meeting will be at the Hubbard Township administration building;
• Announced officials are working with PENNDOT on a road traffic study for Chestnut Ridge and Stateline roads;
• Reported work on the road department garage will be completed by the end of July;
• Reported a traffic study by the Ohio Department of Transportation regarding a turning lane on North Main Street by Love's is being done.
